Grading Scale

(update 10-25-15)
All Rosa Parks students will be provided instruction in the five following areas:

·Library Skills
·Learning Through Literature
·Research Skills
·Organizing and Presenting Information
·Information Citizenship

Each student will be graded regularly on the quality of his/her effort in Library. Participation is defined by a student's effort, attitude, respect, cooperation, and listening. Students who strive for achievement in those areas will make positive and natural progress in their development and will have a positive effect on classmates. Daily effort is evaluated and then given a 4, 3, 2, 1, or N/A based on the following guidelines:

4: Above Standard
This student performs at standard (3) and in addition is a consistent, independent, and self-motivated learner. The student actively seeks ways to enhance the learning of themselves and others, and therefore positively contributes to the classroom learning experience. These students are self-motivated to find ‘just right’ books and know where to find all genres in our library. They often seek opportunities to recommend books to classmates and help others find books.

3: At Standard
This student regularly: focuses and engages in the class activity, listens to and follows instructional directions and asks for help when needed, follows class rules, respects people and school property, and cooperates with others to accomplish lesson goals. Part of the library lesson is self-selecting reading materials. Each week time is given for children to check out books. Students are expected to check out on average 3 books a week and return it them time to the library.

2: Approaching Standard
This student sometimes: focuses and engages in the class activity, listens to and follows instructional directions and asks for help when needed, follows class rules, respects people and school property and cooperates with others to accomplish lesson goals. They may not have expended the effort to check out and return the suggested number of books each week or may have a history of overdue books. Often these students are on the verge of being at standard, and just require a slightly more consistent pattern of making good choices.

1: Not at standard
This student seldom: focuses and engages in the class activity, listens to and follows instructional directions, asks for help when needed, follows class rules, respects people and school property, cooperates with others to accomplish lesson goals.

N/A: Not applicable
This student does not attend library class or is too new to be assessed.
